Our winch was built by Billy Lugar and Joe Engels. The line rewind is kite assisted and therefore under tension, which ensures a smooth payout on the next tow, and the line remains dry as it never reaches the water.

This system allows us to tow to heights of over 1200m above the dam, and to do up to 4 tows to that height per hour!

We are now using a much faster hull, which is both more economical to operate, and allows us to do circular tow in much stronger wind than before. The boat is equipped with a base station radio to allow communications with the pilot on tow and the shore under very noisy and wind noise conditions. A second rubber duck is always ready with an operator on standby in case of a water landing, and is used to pick pilots out of the water when they practice reserve deployments.
